Traditional springbok Potjie at Der Anker in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. Probably the ugliest photo I’ll post on this blog but luckily it tasted WAY better than it looked. Potjie is best described as a meat stew much like Texas chili. It was well spiced and made my big bold Beyerskloof Pinotage sing. In fact, the combo was so good I’m excited to try a Pinotage-Chili pairing when cold weather returns to Austin. For those of you curious of how springbok tastes- it is unsurprisingly like its distant cousin, venison, with dark, lean meat. The spicy, acidic sauce make it hard for me to taste much gaminess but I’m guessing it is pretty much equivalent.
