In my world, people who can deliver consistently moist and well battered fried chicken are the high priests of comfort foods.  With the departure of Gene’s New Orleans Poboy and Not Your Mama’s Food Truck, Ms. P has stepped up as one of the best purveyors of fried chicken in Austin.

Well spiced batter covers high quality hormone-free chicken, fried to moist perfection is the name of EC’s game.  Ms. P accompanies her chicken with a selection of thoughtful and well executed sides.  In my mind, the truffle mac & cheese is a must try with a Cajun-spiced breadcrumbs and thyme providing a perfect counterpoint to the richness of the dish.  Her more traditional sides are no slouches either, her coleslaw (with just a hint of blue cheese) is delicious as is her black-eyed peas.

But it wasn’t her chicken that starred today, it was the incredible waffle that is the highlight of the Cock-Benedict brunch special. Inexplicable light and crispy, the waffle sang with maple syrup and is a perfect compliment to the seasoning in the fried chicken.

You’ll find me there on Sundays for brunch.  I only wish that Bar 96 wasn’t gouging us with their $6 bloodies, but hey- don’t hate the player hate the game.
