Here’s a quick peak at the bar in the new W that opened in Austin. They hired none other than famed mixologist Charlotte Voisey to create their cocktail menu and I got to have a couple of her creations that she made herself! Luckily the cocktails helped calm me down before I blurted something super embarrassing to her.
I tried the black peppercorn martini with Hendricks Gin steeped in fresh cracked peppercorn, muddled strawberries and basil. The glass was rimmed with celery salt and a basil leaf. Unfortunately, I think the gin needed another day before the black pepper flavor rise to the palette.
One beef, the $12 price tag is WAY out of line for Austin. The hotel is cool. Well, that is an understatement, capturing Austin’s rock soul with retro styling that is truly drool-inspiring. But all that said, this isn’t New York and paying $12 for a cocktail is ridiculous. Sorry Charlotte, but I’ll spend my time at the W admiring the decor and get my drinks elsewhere.
