Best Brunch on the East Side: Takoba!  Dear Takoba, I’m sorry I ever doubted you.  When people told me a “fancy” Mexican food restaurant was opening up on East 7th and Onion St. I thought “Great.  Another place that will lose it clarity and go down in flames.”  When I saw your beautiful modern decor, I steeled myself to the fact that it was only a matter of time before you went out of business.  But I was wrong.
The secret to Takoba’s success is perhaps best exemplified by their brunch.  Now, in my world brunch is a religion and the east side was sorely lacking in the higher-end Sunday 10-2 dinning scene. Enter Takoba, with a nice selection of breakfast options and great drink options including a $1 mimosa (try the herb infused option).  We ordered the migas (good but not the ultra-cheesy goodness of the Tamale House on Airport) and the pan tostada con platanos (french toast with caramelized bananas, guajillo honey, cinnamon whipped cream).  As a kicker they even serve authentic cafe cubano.
There is nobody on the East Side currently doing this type of brunch this well.  Give them a shot, you’ll probably see me there!
